AMERICAN COLLEGE OF OSTEOPATHIC FAMILY PHYSICIANS

is ABOM’s newest partner organization

The American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) is pleased to announce the addition of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) as a new partner organization. In an effort to provide candidates and ABOM diplomates access to a network of organizations devoted to the growth of the field of obesity medicine, ABOM collaborates with numerous organizations across the United States and Canada. ABOM is excited to add ACOFP to this growing group.

The American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) is a professional medical association that represents more than 20,000 practicing osteopathic family physicians, residents and students throughout the United States. Its headquarters are located in Arlington Heights, Illinois. ACOFP works to promote excellence in osteopathic family medicine through quality education, visionary leadership and responsible advocacy.

“We are delighted to partner with ACOFP because of our shared commitment to the field of obesity medicine,” said ABOM Executive Director Dana Brittan, MBA. “This partnership also represents a milestone as it is our first time working directly with an organization devoted to osteopathic physicians, a group that continues to grow among the ABOM diplomate population.”

Nearly 600 of ABOM’s 2,000+ diplomates are family physicians. In addition, 221 ABOM diplomates are osteopathic physicians.

“Osteopathic family physicians take a whole-person approach to caring for patients with obesity, as multiple factors can contribute to the condition,” according to ACOFP President Rodney M. Wiseman, DO. “Achieving ABOM certification demonstrates comprehensive knowledge that is necessary for whole-person care.”
