KUMAR NAMED ABOM

The American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) is pleased to welcome Rekha Kumar, MD, MS, as the organization’s Medical Director. Dr. Kumar will serve as an obesity medicine clinical content expert interacting with ABOM administrative staff, board of directors, item writing committee members, diplomates, and physician candidates.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Kumar to the ABOM team,” said ABOM Executive Director Dana Brittan. “She brings a wealth of experience and unending passion for the field of obesity medicine to this important position.”

Dr. Kumar is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine. She is an Attending Endocrinologist at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of various endocrinology disorders, including obesity and weight management. Dr. Kumar is board certified in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. Dr. Kumar has authored several papers and textbook chapters on the topic of Obesity Management.

Dr. Kumar enjoys educating physicians on various aspects of obesity medicine ranging from etiologies of obesity to new pharmacologic therapies. She has lectured to physicians around the United States and addressed policy makers on Capitol Hill on the importance of treating obesity as a disease.

“I am honored to take on this position during a time in which obesity medicine is experiencing exponential growth as an entirely new field of medicine,” said Dr. Kumar. “During my time as medical director, I look forward to being a voice for physicians who currently treat obesity and working to share the value of certification with others who are just learning about the field.”
