NEW MOC PROGRAM
now available
The American Board of Obesity Medicine is pleased to announce the launch of the Journal Article Review Recertification Pathway (JARRP). This maintenance of certification program allows current ABOM diplomates to maintain certification through lifelong learning that is designed to build upon the basic knowledge acquired through the certification process. For diplomates who complete the process, it will eliminate the recertification exam that had been a requirement every 10 years.
At the core of the program is access to a carefully curated and frequently updated bank of journal articles. The articles are selected by a committee of ABOM diplomates to reflect current trends and foundational basics in obesity medicine.
“We are thrilled to offer the JARRP program as an option for current diplomates eager to recertify as obesity medicine physicians,” said ABOM Board Chairman Dr. John Cleek. “There has been a movement within the medical community to find recertification models that truly enhance a doctor’s practice by offering quality education that is relevant to the patient experience. We believe we have developed a program that does just that.”
The JARRP program requires participants to:
- Earn a minimum of 12 Journal Article Review points every two years by reading curated articles on the topic of obesity designated by the ABOM Maintenance of Certification Committee.
- Respond correctly to 75% of the post-article questions for each article (diplomates will have two attempts per article).
- Each article completed successfully is worth 1 Journal Article Review point. Diplomates who successfully complete the JARRP program will be able to recertify at the end of their 10-year term by providing proof of active medical license in the US or Canada and proof of active certification in an ABMS board.
